We’ll start planning for YSF 2010 in the spring & summer, so watch this space for more information and a call for participants.

Call now for a free 45-minute mentoring session with a local songwriter. Offering advice on songwriting are Sean Rogers, Dan Florida (aka Almus Magnus), Holly Mae, and Jay Lapp. We’ll try to match you with the songwriter who most matches your style! Visit us at the Third Annual Ypsilanti Songwriting Festival on Saturday, October 10^th at our Whittaker Road facility or the Corner Brewery and enter your name to win a copy of Sheila Weller’s Girls Like Us: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon – and the Journey of a Generation signed by the author. The New York Times’ Janet Maslin called Girls Like Us “captivating.” Mojo hailed it as “an unfailingly entertaining read… a riveting story.” And The London Sunday Times praised it as “a fabulous book… (that) works as a healthy, long overdue counterweight to the endlessly repeated, male-sided version of rock’roll.” Complete an entry form throughout the day and drop it off in the Community Room. Just Announced: Songwriter Stopwatch Challenge

2:30 – 5 pm, YDL-Whittaker Road, Story Room

Roger Miller wrote “Dang Me” in fifteen minutes and won 4 Grammys. Bob Seger wrote “Hollywood Nights” in twenty-five minutes and it became a top ten hit on one of the most popular albums of his career. Could you write a song in two hours or less, with the clock running and the pressure on?

Sign up to be a part of The Songwriters Stopwatch Challenge. Up to ten contestants will register between 2:30-3 pm. At 3 pm, three words will be selected from a blind by each participant. Then the challenge is on as the stopwatch ticks down the minutes…for in two hours time, these new songs, containing the three random words among its lyrics, will be performed for the first time, live, before our YDL audience.

YSF’09 Session on Home Studio Recording with Paul Tyson Announced

1 pm, YDL-Whittaker Road, Community Meeting Room

Paul Tyson will demonstrate several types of computer-based recording solutions that include both software and hardware. The session will cover audio recording as well as MIDI recording using a MIDI keyboard. Attendees will learn about MIDI recording vs. audio recording and will see a live demonstration that illustrates the differences between the two recording methods.
